A Uniontown standoff ended with one suspect dead and another under arrest after the couple reportedly opened fire on police from their pickup truck.
The drama unfolded in the western Pennsylvania town on Friday afternoon. Police were following a blue pickup truck near Uniontown at close to noon when the person in the back seat rolled down a window and began shooting at police.
This sparked a chase, which ended when the truck crashed into a home on Gallatin Avenue Extension. Police say the male occupant of the car fled into a nearby house while the woman surrendered.
Witnesses say police tried to negotiate with the man for hours, calling him Donald over a bullhorn. They even talked to the man’s girlfriend
“She says you’re a good guy. Please pick up the phone and talk to us,” police said over a loud speaker.
Police also asked the man to move the curtains or give some other indication that he was still alive inside the home, but it is unknown if he responded. He remained barricaded inside the home for hours.
The Uniontown standoff came to a head at close to 9 pm, when police used robots and an armored vehicle with a battering ram to break down the door. Police then entered the house, but came out a short time later.
They would later confirm that the man was dead, but have not yet released a cause of death or said when during the standoff he died.
The man killed in the Uniontown standoff has not been identified, but police said the woman is Jessica Phillips of Buckhannon, West Virginia. She was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, attempted homicide, fleeing police and other counts, and was being held in prison in lieu of $1 million bond.
