“As I Lay Dying” frontman Tim Lambesis was suffering from a form of ‘roid rage when he allegedly tried to hire a hitman to kill his estranged wife Meggan Lambesis according to his lawyer.

As The Inquisitr previously reported , when the rocker allegedly told his friends at a gym about his desire to kill his wife, someone reportedly put him in touch with a guy who could get the job done. It turned out that the hitman was an undercover detective. Tim Lambesis allegedly turned over house security codes and other information to the the undercover operative and also allegedly paid the man $1,000 as a kind of a down payment. The meeting reportedly occurred in Oceanside, Calif., in the San Diego area, on May 7, and Lambesis was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

A San Diego County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said that authorities received a tip that Lambesis was shopping for someone to kill his wife. “We acted quickly … I believe we averted a great tragedy,” she said.

Lambesis’ lawyer raised the steroids defense at a bail hearing. According to the attorney, “His thought process was dramatically impacted by the steroid use” when the musician started getting into body building. Lambesis, 32, has pleaded not guilty to a single count of solicitation for murder.

The judge agreed to reduce the bail from $3 million to $2 million but the musician still remains behind bars. He is due back in court tomorrow.

Megan Lambesis served her husband with divorce papers in September 2012.

The Grammy-nominated Christian metal group “As I Lay Dying”currently has a tour scheduled for later this year. It’s likely that these performances will be scrapped because the heavy metal vocalist currently isn’t allowed to leave the San Diego area even if he eventually posts bail.

Do you think there is any basis for blaming this alleged murder plot on steroid use?
