Rapper Wiz Khalifa, who came to fame largely via internet attention, was arrested last night after a performance at East Carolina University in North Carolina.
According to news sources in Greenville, North Carolina, the 22-year-old rapper whose real name is Cameron Thomaz was booked after the ECU show for “trafficking marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a place for the sale of marijuana.” As of just before 2am today, Wiz Khalifa was being held in Pitt County Detention Center in lieu of $300,000 bail.
A fan-recorded video (viewable below) was posted to YouTube of Wiz being lead away by local police. In the background, fans can be heard booing the officers and shouting “Free Wiz!” “We’re sorry!” and “Smoke weed every day.” Prior to the show, the rapper sent a perhaps ill-advised tweet about the evening’s festivities:
