Carson Palmer Says Buccaneers Called Him A Lot In Offseason

Carson Palmer is firmly entrenched as the starting quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals, after being traded by the Raiders last year. Speaking with reporters prior to his matchup against the Tampa Bay this Sunday, Palmer revealed the Buccaneers called his agent “a lot” during the offseason.

Carson Palmer was traded to Arizona from Oakland, and Josh Freeman kept his job as Tampa Bay’s starting quarterback. Now the season is three weeks old and Freeman has been benched for rookie quarterback Mike Glennon . The move, announced Wednesday, came after reports of Josh Freeman’s laziness and lack of leadership.

Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano said the decision to start Glennon was to, “give us the best chance to win” a game that should come down to defense. The Tampa Bay defense is stout and should be able to handle Arizona’s aerial attack. Put simply, the team that turns the ball over less should win.

About almost being a Buccaneer, Carson Palmer said, “My agent had said that Tampa had been contacting him a lot. I would have been very excited to be there. Their organization has a lot of good players across the board, but like I said, I’m excited and happy to be where I am. I’m excited about our future.”

Palmer ended up in a great spot in Arizona. Head coach Bruce Arians loves to throw the ball, and Larry Fitzgerald is one the best wide receivers in the league.

The Buccaneers have good wide receivers too. Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams give whoever is under center a chance to succeed, even Josh Freeman. Now Mike Glennon gets his shot to prove he is an NFL quality starter. All eyes will be on him Sunday to see if he can help the Buccaneers get their first win.
