Adrian Peterson’s gay marriage remarks, made recently during a SiriusXM interview, seem to have further revealed the forward march of acceptance regarding marriage equality as people react to the statement on social media sites like Twitter.
As The Inquisitr reported earlier, Adrian Peterson’s gay marriage position was revealed last week during a satellite radio interview with Amani Toomer and Bruce Murray on Thursday.
Peterson was addressing fellow NFL star Chris Kluwe, who has garnered a lot of positive attention on social media sites for his outspoken support of marriage equality.
Kluwe was recently cut by the Minnesota Vikings, and Peterson riffed on how he believed his fellow NFL star’s stance on gay marriage was not part of the reason — but added that he himself is “not with” gay marriage.
Adrian Peterson began, explaining he has gay family members — but is still against gay marriage:
“To each his own. I’m not with it … But I have relatives that, you know, are gay. I’m not biased towards them. I still treat them the same. I love them. But again, I’m not with that. That’s not something that I believe in. But to each his own.”
Peterson continued:
“I’m sure the Vikings’ organization did not release him based on that … They know Kluwe. They’ve been knowing him for a long time. They know he’s outspoken.”
He added:
“It hurt me to see him leave. He was a good friend of mine and a really cool guy, man. Probably one of the smartest guys I’ve ever been around, man … Different.”
Over on Twitter, reaction to Adrian Peterson’s gay marriage remarks were mixed — but as is the trend in recent years, mostly in opposition to the stance.
