The wheels of justice sometimes move slowly, but country superstar Randy Travis has been formally charged with driving while intoxicated in an incident that occurred back on August 7.
As The Inquistr previously reported , Randy Travis was naked when state troopers arrived at the scene near his hometown of Tioga, Texas, after the singer wrecked his 1998 Pontiac Trans Am.
Reuters reports that toxicology tests indicate that Travis had a 0.15 BAC, nearly twice the legal limit in Texas (and virtually all other states). The misdemeanor offense could result in up to two years in jail and a $4,000 fine if Travis is found guilty.
Travis, 53, allegedly threatened the troopers at the time but no charges in connection with that allegation have yet to be filed.
According KTEN Channel 10 , “Grayson County D.A. Joe Brown says now that the charge has been filed they can move forward with court proceedings. So far no court date has been set.” Apparently, the lawyer representing Travis and prosecutors are trying to negotiate a plea deal to settle the case.
Travis, who has had several run-ins with the law in the last year, has won six Grammy awards and began focusing on gospel music more recently.
The country singer’s attorney, Larry Friedman, told EOnline that Travis is turning over a new leaf:
“He has begun a personal revitalization program. He’s on a three-hour-a-day exercise regimen with new diet and exercise. He’s completely off of alcohol. He has recorded 31 new songs for an album that will be released in April. And he’s paying a lot of attention to his personal matters. We expect 2013 to be an extraordinary year for him. We’re also looking at a couple of movie scripts for him as well.”
