George Clooney’s ‘Monuments Men’ Trailer Makes Its Debut

Filmmaker and actor George Clooney has debuted a trailer for his next directorial project, Monuments Men. The film — which stars Matt Damon , Bill Murray, and John Goodman — seems to take more than a few pages out of the Oceans Eleven series as far as tone is considered. As far as aesthetic, it looks like it will also mirror The Good German, which Clooney starred in.

Although this film seems to resemble a lot of the Clooney-driven films over the last ten years, it does seem to take on a bit of a lighter fare, thanks to John Goodman, and a few other players involved.

Monuments Men tells the true story of a WWII platoon who need to rescue plundered art from the Nazis. While it may not be off the wall like Inglorious Basterds, it may just shape up to be a different take we need on WWII.

When asked to divulge about his film, Clooney said in an interview: “It’s been a long time (since) you could find a new story about World War II.”

Perhaps Clooney wants to redefine how we view WWII films? Who knows.

The synopsis for Monuments Men is listed as follows:

“Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action-thriller focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.”

The film is produced by Grant Heslow, who also produced Ben Affleck’s Award Winning film Argo with Clooney.

Monuments Men opens in theaters on December 18.
