Are These Bearded Dragons Waving Hello, Or Is It Code For Something Else

Bearded dragons, like many other animals, do things that make us laugh or simply go, aww.

Well, this video of two bearded dragons, who look like they are waving at each other, are making viewers do both.

As the camera pans back and forth between two terrariums, two baby bearded dragons can be seen doing what looks both like arm rotations and, the cuter version, simply waving hello to each other.

So what is going on between these two little lizards? These are movements are actually a form of non-verbal communication.

So these little lizards are saying hello then, right? Well, maybe. Or maybe they are discussing the poker game, as MSN Now jokingly reported.

The Huffington Post reported that this arm waving motion is actually a pretty common gesture when it comes to bearded dragons.

This gesture could mean a few different things, but the exact reason for the wave isn’t entirely known.

Some bearded dragons do the arm wave when they are signaling that they are ready to mate.

For example, my three-year-old bearded dragon normally starts doing her arm wave about two to three weeks before she starts her digging ritual, which comes right before she lays her unfertilized eggs.

Another reason a bearded dragon, especially baby bearded dragons, do the arm wave is in fear of a larger dragon or other large animal.

It’s a common belief that the bearded dragon will do this wave as a sign of submission when a larger animal approaches it, or even when their owner approaches their tank.

There is another reason for this behavior, that being a sign of species recognition. In the video above, the two bearded dragons waving at each other could be saying to each other, “Oh hey! You are a beardie, just like me!”

So maybe these bearded dragons are simply waving hello to each other! We won’t know until we’ve finally cracked their secret beardie code.
