William Shatner Announces Progressive Rock Album

William Shatner discussed his new progressive rock album during a Dragon Con appearance. The former Star Trek actor’s album is titled Ponder the Mystery.

The album is a collaboration with Vince Gill, Mich Jones, Rick Wakeman, Steve Vai, and several other musicians. Shatner is credited with writing all the lyrics.

As reported by Contact Music, the lyrics express Shatner’s feelings about “aging, depression, love and beauty.” One of the songs is reportedly dedicated to Shatner’s dog Starbuck.

Shatner calls Ponder the Mystery “the most creative thing [he has] ever done.”

Along with the album’s release, William Shatner will be touring in Los Angeles. The tour will include Yes member Billy Sherwood. The tour is scheduled to begin in early October.

Shatner explained that depending on the success of the LA tour, he will consider a more permanent show in Las Vegas.

In addition to the live concerts, Shatner has planned a reading of The Two Gentlemen of Verona. The Shakespeare reading will include Tom Hanks, and music performed by Paul McCartney.

Shatner joked about working with McCartney, as he previously “mangled one of his songs.”

The reading will be in Los Angeles. However, Shatner did not discuss any dates.

As reported by Access Atlanta, Shatner is a favorite at the yearly Dragon Con. This year, he spoke before an audience of close to 3,000.

William Shatner is best known for his role of Captain James T. Kirk in the original Star Trek television series. Shatner appeared alongside Leonard Nimoy in 80 episodes from 1966 through 1969.

Shatner’s musical career has been interesting. His performances are often spoken rather than sung. His style has been described as exaggerated and quite dramatic.

William Shatner has received praise for his originality and criticism for his absurdity. Despite any criticism, he remains an icon among Star Trek fans.
