‘N Sync Performs Front And Center With Justin Timberlake At VMAs

For anyone who was tuning in tonight to the VMAs, they were flipping the switch to see one rumored reunion of a boy band that made their VMA debut in 1999.

Of course we’re talking about Justin Timberlake’s group ‘N Sync. Back then, led by both Timberlake and JC Chasez, the group, which consisted of Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC and Justin were on the bubble of exploding. Tonight the five members gathered to remind the One Directions of the world how to “do it” as Timberlake put it to the VMA audience.

Tonight Justin Timberlake was being honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award, which has only been received by Madonna and Britney Spears. Rumors were circulating from early on in the week that to both celebrate and acknowledge Timberlake’s success, his boy band past would be highlighted during his performance. Although we heard a lot of denials from members like Joey Fatone and Lance Bass, tonight the five men took the stage and performed a medley of their classic hits, “Gone”, “Girlfriend”, and “Bye Bye Bye”.

In total Timberlake performed a fifteen minute set, which included hits from his solo career, like “Take Back The Night”, “Sexy Back”, “Like I Love You”, “My Love”, “Cry Me a River”, “Senorita”, “Rock Your Body”, “Suit & Tie”, and “Mirrors.”

‘N Sync’s performance, although a bit short, lasted for a little over a minute, and acted as an intermission to the Justin Timberlake concert experience, that just happened to take place at the Video Music Awards. In true Timberlake fashion, as he’s known to do, the singer took over the awards with a show stopping performance. Although most of his fans were holding their breath in anticipation for the ‘N Sync reunion, Timberlake managed to really give a performance that showed his true showmanship.

The most impressive part of ‘N Sync’s medley was that they all seemed to have most of their moves down (with the exception of Lance, who still can’t dance.) While their dancing was pretty loose for the groovy “Girlfriend” track, “Bye Bye Bye” truly tested the group, as they hit their marks while recreating their moves from their 2000 VMA performance of the song.

Before and after the performance Timberlake’s good friend and collaborator Jimmy Fallon had a few notes for the audience about Timberlake’s accomplishments. One of them being that the artist has won 16 moonmen, as well as being a performer who has entertained for two decades. After performing, Timberlake acknowledged his past, and thanked ‘N Sync, noting that half of the moonmen he has in his career, he had won with “those guys.”

Tonight Justin Timberlake won three moonmen in addition to the Michael Jackson Video Vanugard award. What did you think of ‘N Sync’s reunion?
