Ziyi Zhang Might Return For ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ Sequel

Ziyi Zhang is reportedly in talks to reprise her role in the proposed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel. However, nothing about her involvement has been confirmed just yet.

According to a source close to the production, producers are hoping that the Chinese actress will tackle the role of Jen Yu once again. The insider claims Zhang’s part will be shot as flashbacks in order to explain what happened to the warrior in-between films.

Although Chow Yun-Fat won’t be coming back for the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel, Michelle Yeoh is expected to return as Yu Shu Lien in the flick. Ip Man and Dragon star Donnie Yen will play Silent Wolf in the follow-up.

The original entry in the series was helmed by Life of Pi director Ang Lee. However, the award-winning filmmaker won’t step behind the camera for the sequel. Instead, Matrix fight choreographer and legendary Hong Kong filmmaker Yuen Wo Ping will bring the story to life.

The Forbidden Kingdom scribe John Fusco will try his hand at the script for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2. The writer’s filmography also includes such notable cinematic efforts as Young Guns, The Babe, the Val Kilmer drama Thunderheart.

Ziyi Zhang has another high-profiled martial arts flick currently awaiting release in the United States. Acclaimed director Wong Kar-wai’s The Grandmaster is finally set to open across North America on August 23. Yuen Wo Ping provided fight choreography on this endeavor as well.

The actress also has several Chinese films in the works. She is presently attached to My Lucky Star, The Crossing, Love and Let Love, and John Woo’s The Crossing. Zhang is also slated to appear alongside Man of Steel star Henry Cavill in the upcoming thriller The Great Wall.
