Nicholas Sparks Gets Lifetime TV Show
Author Nicholas Sparks has a reputation in the film industry for being the guy behind a lot of people’s guilty pleasure romances. Many of his hits have provided a tween audience with films to swoon over like The Notebook, Dear John, and A Walk To Remember. Now it looks like Sparks is ready to take on the next medium, and that’s television.
Although it was reported that the new project was one of three television projects sold to different networks, it’s being reported by Deadline that one is actually making its way to the next stage.
Lifetime has decided to move forward with Nicholas Sparks Prod. Deliverance Creek. Before you think it’s a spooky spin-off of 90s WB hit Dawson’s Creek, it’s not. Deliverance Creek, is a period drama set in the world of the Civil War, which is something that already seems out of Sparks’ usual element. This is probably because the project is being written by Melissa Carter, who is said to be bringing a female centric character to the plot.
Deliverance Creek will focus on a woman named Belle Barlow, who will be forced to defend her land from a crooked bank that runs the town she calls home. According to Deadline, said bank will force Barlow to become an outlaw and she will have to deal with a great moral dilemma.
In addition to writing the pilot for Lifetime, Carter is slated to executive produce with Nicholas Sparks, and his production company partner Theresa Park. As it stands now, this definitely doesn’t look like it’s in his wheelhouse, but it’s smart of Sparks to have two women spearhead the project, especially when considering Lifetime’s demographic.
Over the years Lifetime has been changing their content to target a young adult audience with their original shows like Drop Dead Diva, and The Client List. The network pretty much did away with you grandmother’s favorite tragedy movie nights because of it.
As of right now Deliverance Creek hasn’t gone to series order, but at least they’re looking at the pilot for their options. It’s a smart move, in our opinion.
