Denzel Washington Turned Down ‘Fast And Furious 7’ [Rumor]

Denzel Washington reportedly turned down a small role in the upcoming sequel Fast and Furious 7.

Every once in a while the Tony Award-winning actor will dip his toes in the world of action. Washington’s latest cinematic endeavor finds him shooting a plethora of bad guys alongside Mark Wahlberg.

However, apparently Denzel Washington wasn’t interested in tackling a small role in the next installment of Universal Pictures’ box office smash. Although the rumor is currently making the rounds online, nothing has been confirmed the flick’s producer or the man himself.

During his article about how creatively bankrupt Hollywood studios are at the moment, Deadline’s Mike Fleming, Jr. claimed that Washington wasn’t interested in sliding behind the wheel of the upcoming sequel. No reason for his disinterest in the project was given.

Is there any truth to these reports? Denzel Washington currently hasn’t said a word about the rumor. If the guy has any press junkets lined up today (August 2), then chances are someone is bound to ask him about it. Of course, he may not be willing to divulge any details just yet.

While some outlets are stating that the actor doesn’t have time for small roles, the guy could just be busy with other projects at the moment. Not only is he busy with Antoine Fuqua’s adaptation of The Equalizer, Washington just landed the lead role in a Broadway production of A Raisin in the Sun.

Rumors has it that Universal is still interested in getting a big name to fill the role in The Conjuring director James Wan’s Fast and Furious 7. Filming on the big-budget sequel is expected to begin shortly. The studio wants the film wrapped up and ready to go by July 11, 2014.

The actor’s latest effort, Baltasar Kormakur’s 2 Guns, is in theaters right now.
