Fernando Alonso Reprimanded For Criticising Ferrari After Hungarian Grand Prix

Fernando Alonso has been rebuked by Ferrari chief, Luca Di Montezemolo, after the Spaniard criticised the Italian car.

Alonso was reprimanded on his birthday because after the Hungarian Grand Prix, a reporter asked him what he wanted for his birthday, to which the two time world champion stated, “Someone else’s car.”

It is believed that Di Montezemolo phoned the driver on Monday, wished him a happy birthday and then gave him a stern talking to because of his most recent comments.

Ferrari confirmed all of this in a statement, remarking that Alonso was reminded “all the great champions who have driven for Ferrari have always been asked to put the interests of the team above their own.”

It then added, “This is the moment to stay calm, avoid polemics and show humility and determination in making one’s own contribution, standing alongside the team and its people both at the track and outside it.”

Alonso has currently been linked to the position at Red Bull, which will become vacant at the end of the season when Mark Webber leaves the team.

The Spaniard is widely regarded as the best driver in the Formula One paddock, however the Ferrari car that he has been driving for four seasons has been uncompetitive but he has somehow managed to challenge competitively for the championship on several occasions.

His manager, Luis Garcia Abad, was seen talking to Red Bull team boss, Christian Horner, at the Hungarian Grand Prix, which has since sparked rumors that the Spaniard might join Ferrari’s rivals.

Alonso was asked whether he had been approached by Red Bull, stating, “I don’t think so. Not that I know.” Whilst Abad also confirmed that there has been “no discussions” with Horner.
