Watch: Justin Bieber And Selena Gomez, Did Pattie Mallette Just Out ‘Jelena?’

Justin Bieber’s mom, Pattie Mallette, recently refused to talk about her famous son’s private life in an interview to promote a new teen edition of her best selling 2012 book Nowhere But Up. But, today, the 38-year-old unwittingly stepped right into one of the biggest debates in pop culture.

Namely; are Bieber and Selena Gomez still together?

In fact, that was the exact question Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy asked Mallette at the end of a discussion about her pregnancy at 18 with Justin, the child abuse she suffered, experimentation with drugs and drink, depression, and even an attempted suicide at the age of 17.

So, what was the still youthful, inspirational mom’s reply to the are they/ aren’t they Bieber-Gomez question?

“It depends what day it is. I can’t keep up,” Mallette said ruefully.

Mallette’s statement comes after E! News’ latest report following Bieber’s July 5 Instagram, which showed the ex-couple in a friendly pose together.

Commenting on Bieber and Gomez, a source told the outlet:

“They are trying to maintain a friendship.”

The current Bieber-Gomez debate — which basically hasn’t stopped since they first broke up last November — sparked in earnest this April when the Spring Breakers actress visited her ex-beau in Oslo, Norway during his Believe world tour. Two suggestive Instagrams followed, one of which was deleted.

Fast forward to recent dubious reports of Gomez dating Ed Sheeran and/or Austin Mahone and a “fake” story about Bieber supposedly banning her music from a photoshoot. The debate opened up again when it was revealed he and Gomez spent Independence Day together with friends and the Canadian posted the “Heartbreaker” Instagram.

Incidentally “Heartbreaker” is also the name of Bieber’s much anticipated, upcoming single.

Acres of comment about the state of the young ex-sweetheart’s relationship kicked off among fans and media alike, with some assuming the pair are back on and others saying they are just friends.

So, to recap, ‘Jelena’ isn’t dead in the water but it does depend what day it is.

Isn’t it reassuring to know that even Bieber’s own mother is as confused as the rest of us?
