‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’ E3 2013 Trailer Shows Off Open-World Gameplay

Microsoft sure kicked off its E3 press conference with a bang. During the opening, an all-new trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was shown, with tons of new gameplay footage, information on characters, and even some of the game’s settings.

And, yes, this means that Metal Gear Solid V is coming to the Xbox One. Act surprised!

By the standards set by previous trailers, this one made a lot more sense. We’ve heard that Metal Gear Solid V would be open-world before, but the trailer was all about showcasing that fact; we’re first treated to a desert terrain, and the trailer goes on to highlight the different modes of transportation – including a horse – that Big Boss will be able to use to get around in.

The trailer also demonstrated that the game will feature a day/night cycle, along with a rather impressive weather system. In the case of desert terrain, that means you can expect to run into some fierce dust storms.

Not a whole lot was revealed about the story in the trailer, but it did suggest ties to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker – the trailer implied that Kaz Miller from that game will play a somewhat important role in Metal Gear Solid V.

Fortunately, it sounds like that won’t be the last trailer we’ll be seeing of Metal Gear Solid V at E3. Series creator Hideo Kojima came out on stage after the trailer, and promised fans that even more will be coming up very shortly.

Once the original trailer makes its way on the internet – as well as whatever else Kojima has to show – you’ll be able to find them embedded in this post.

UPDATE: Well, that was quick. Here’s the E3 2013 Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer:
