Man Wins Banana With Dreadlocks, Loses Life Savings In Carnival Game

A New Hampshire man is the proud owner of a banana with dreadlocks, but the trinket came at great cost — his entire life savings — after a carnival game gone awry in New Hampshire.

Henry Gribbohm of Epsom, New Hampshire dropped an astounding $2,600 on a carnival game in nearby Manchester, hoping to win an Xbox Kinect.

Gribbohm, 30, was playing the Tubs of Fun game at the Fiesta Shows carnival and believed the bet was an easy one, simply tossing balls into a bucket … with the fancy gaming console waiting at the end.

But, the New Hampshire man says, the banana with dreadlocks was the only prize he was able to claim — and now he says he suspects the Tubs of Fun attraction is “rigged,” because the “balls kept popping out” during his turns.

Speaking to a local news source with his $2,600 banana with dreadlocks, the unlucky contestant says:

“You’re expecting the kids to win a few things, let the kids have a good time. It just didn’t turn out that way … It’s not possible that it wasn’t rigged.”

In just a few minutes, an escalating double or nothing stakes on the game saw Epsom down $300 — in and of itself a pretty stunningly high amount on a carnival game. By the time he was several hundred down, the man says it was difficult to walk away.

But he did walk away — and returned home to fetch $2,300 more to blow on the banana with dreadlocks. Predictably, that was quickly depleted as well, with only a banana with dreadlocks to show for the huge investment.

Epsom explains: “You just get caught up in the whole ‘I’ve got to win my money back.'”

Epsom says he went back with his banana with dreadlocks the following day and was refunded $600 — and even got to keep the prize. Manchester Police are investigating the man’s claims of game rigging.
