Kelly Ripa: I Don’t Talk To Regis Anymore

Kelly Ripa spent more than a decade by Regis Philbin’s side every morning, but now the Live host said she doesn’t see or talk to her fellow co-host at all.

After a long career on television, Regis decided to leave the show back in November 2011.

Kelly Ripa said that was the last she every really heard of him.

“I haven’t seen him, no,” Ripa told The Hollywood Reporter after being named to the publication’s annual 35 Most Powerful People in Media list.

Even though they haven’t kept in touch, Kelly Ripa still had good things to say about Regis. She even gave him a favorable comparison to the new host, Michael Strahan.

“Well they’re both incredible storytellers,” Kelly Ripa said, adding that Regis could even keep up with the former New York Giant on the football field. “They are both fiercely competitive, and they’re both incredible football players.”

It’ a good thing he still has the energy, because Regis Philbin recently decided to make a return to television. He will be hosting a show for FOX Sports 1 called Rush Hour, discussing sports topic with a panel of athletes and celebrity guests.

“I think we’re going to have some fun and discuss sports — that will be the basis of it,” Philbin said. He added that instead of getting up at the crack of dawn to co-host with Kelly Ripa, his new gig lets him get up in the afternoon and film in the evening.

While Regis is settling in to his new gig, Kelly Ripa is back to doing what she does best — covering hot topics. When the host sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to the 35 Most Powerful People in Media list, Ripa talked about news that disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner was making a run for mayor of New York.

Why not, Kelly Ripa said, adding, “I love a political Cinderella story.”
