5 Seconds of Summer fans and Luke Hemmings’ girlfriend Arzaylea have not always seen each other eye-to-eye. From allegedly leaking Hemmings’ number to only dating the 5SOS member to become famous, fans of the Australian rock band had not always been fond of the Internet influencer.
In an interview with Vice, Arzaylea said that she is not after Luke Hemmings for fame. She explained that 5SOS fans had always portrayed her as this “horrible” person who uses the 5SOS guitarist.
“I’m just a really normal girl who just happens to date someone not so normal.”
Arzaylea also pointed out that she has a lot of friends who are already well known in both showbiz and music industry. Case in point, she actually met Luke at Kylie Jenner’s birthday in 2015. Arzaylea’s father and Kylie’s boyfriend, Tyga, were business partners. They reportedly had stakes in a headphones company.
Since Luke Hemmings and Arzaylea started going out since September, the latter has been called a lot of names by 5SOS fans, including fame hungry and gold digger. They also alleged her of selling information about 5 Seconds of Summer to tabloids and forcing Hemmings to smoke pot.
On countless occasions, 5 Seconds of Summer fans complained about Arzaylea acting rude towards them. The outlet also claimed that some fans believed that Arzaylea was “brainwashing” Luke into “hating” the fans.
Logan Sachon of Vice talked to Lindsay Webster of Team Fangirl , a self-confessed 5SOS fan who does not approve of Luke Hemmings and Arzaylea’s relationship. While she did not know Luke’s girlfriend personally, Webster explained that her hatred of her comes from what she kept posting online. She added that the 5SOS fandom could not believe that someone as “young, awkward and adorable” as Hemmings would date someone like Arzaylea.
“You don’t have to be pessimistic or even biased to see that she’s thirsty for fame, inconsiderate, and an alien to anything but a privileged life… When I did the extensive research on Arzaylea, I questioned if I even knew the Luke that I thought I knew. My Luke wouldn’t date someone like that.”
In December, Rolling Stone wrote about the “wild life” of 5SOS . Writer Patrick Doyle shared that during the interview, Arzaylea and Luke Hemmings continued to hold hands even while the singer was eating. It was a clear indication that the couple is tired of hiding their relationship from the public.
When they first started going out, Luke shared that they had to use separate cars, attempting to avoid the paparazzi. They, however, soon decided to just come out and be themselves no matter what the fans say.
“It’s hard. One of the weird things is you want it to be a secret, but you don’t want it to be a secret.”
In January, Arzaylea wrote an open letter to 5SOS fans, apologizing for her “problematic” behavior. The Internet influencer explained that she had been through “many sorrows which caused her to handle life differently than most would.” While she previously held that she is not at all affected with fans hating on her, Arzaylea admitted that the backlash she receives on social media would often keep her up all night.
“I don’t want you to hate me. I don’t want to be the ‘reason’ this ‘fandom’ is ‘falling apart,’”

As reported by The Inquisitr , 5SOS fans had mixed reactions with Arzaylea’s apology. While some appreciated her honesty, some felt that it was just another tactic to cover up her past behavior.
