My Chemical Romance Breaks Up, Gerard Way Tells Fans Band ‘Can Never Die’

My Chemical Romance has officially broken up as a band. Lead singer Gerard Way has responded to distraught fans, saying that while “My Chemical Romance is done…it can never die.”

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, My Chemical Romance made the announcement on their official blog. The band members gave a final farewell that was about as melancholy as much of their art:

“We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.”

Many fans were of course upset by the news of My Chemical Romance breaking up. Many went to Twitter to vent their emotions over the end of a musical era in their lives. In response, band leader Gerard Waydecided to address the breakup on Twitter, as well, saying, “Beyond any sadness, what I feel the most is pride.”

Fans were still upset and confused by the corporate nature of the announcement, so Gerard Way wrote a 2,200-word essay explaining the My Chemical Romance breakup. He opens with poetry that describes a little bird wandering into his house, only to launch into a vow that My Chemical Romance would never truly die.

Gerard Way makes his point clear in these words:

“It is often my nature to be abstract, hidden in plain sight, or nowhere at all. I have always felt that the art I have made (alone or with friends) contains all of my intent when executed properly, and thus, no explanation required. It is simply not in my nature to excuse, explain, or justify any action I have taken as a result of thinking it through with a clear head, and in my truth. ?I had always felt this situation involving the end of this band would be different, in the eventuality it happened. I would be cryptic in its existence, and open upon its death. The clearest actions come from truth, not obligation. And the truth of the matter is that I love every one of you. ?So, if this finds you well, and sheds some light on anything, or my personal account and feelings on the matter, then it is out of this love, mutual and shared, not duty. ?Love. ?This was always my intent.”

Gerard Way ends his love letter to his fans with these words, explaining how the My Chemical Romance breakup does not mean a true end:

“My Chemical Romance is done. But it can never die. It is alive in me, in the guys, and it is alive inside all of you. I always knew that, and I think you did too. Because it is not a band- it is an idea.”
