Chris Hemsworth & Family Contributing $1 Million To Support The Fight Against Australian Bushfires

Chris Hemsworth and his family are donating $1 million to support the fight against the wildfires in Australia.

The 36-year-old actor took to his Instagram account on January 7 to inform his 39 million followers that his family is pledging a million dollars to help those who are fighting against or have been affected by the horrific bushfires that started in November of 2019.

In the video, the Thor actor began by letting his followers know that he wants to support the fight against the wildfires, which have cost lives and caused massive devastation in his home country. He stated the fires have affected Australia’s weather and atmosphere and are still currently burning. He went on to tell his followers that there is still a lot of work to be done, which is why he and his family are contributing to the fight. He said he believes every penny counts and is urging his fans to donate, even if they can’t afford a huge amount.

The Men In Black actor is currently a Tourism Australia ambassador and is from the coastal town of Byron Bay, in New South Wales, Australia — one of the worst-hit areas in the country.

According to a report from ET, the Australian bushfires have now reached more than 12 million acres of land, burning across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia. The amount of land that is burning is about the size of Vermont and New Hampshire combined. More than 20 people have died and more than 2,000 homes have been destroyed.

Chris’ latest share has been viewed over 5 million times and has gained over 20,000 comments in less than 24 hours of going live. Fans flocked to the comments section to show their love and support for the actor.

“Sir we all are with you, and we will fight!!” commented one follower.

“So generous, beautiful man mahalo nui,” Jason Momoa wrote.

“We are blown away by your support. We cannot thank you enough @chrishemsworth!” Red Cross Australia added.

“My good man, much love to you, your family, and all of Australia,” Chris’s Avengers co-star Jeremy Renner commented.

This new donation comes on the heels of an accusation the actor faced last month. As reported by The Inquisitr, Chris was accused of purchasing several trucks of water for his new garden in his Australian home. That was reported to be false, however. The actor made a statement saying that the water he allegedly purchased was for consumption and that he would not use drinking water to water his plants, especially considering the water restrictions the country is under due to the fires.

The same report detailed that Chris, along with his wife Elsa Pataky, are helping Australian firefighters and have been using their platform to try and spread awareness about the situation to the rest of the world.
