Joss Whedon recently called Hulk one of Marvel’s most difficult properties.

The director has seen many Hulk rumors come and go in recent days. Although reports suggested that Planet Hulk would bridge the gap between The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3 , Whedon called referred to the news as “nonsense.”

During a quick chat with the folks at Deadline , Joss Whedon discussed what was happening behind-the-scenes with the standalone Hulk feature.

“The Hulk is the most difficult Marvel property because it’s always about balance,” Whedon explained. “Is he a monster? Is he a hero? Are you going to root for a protagonist who spends all his time trying to stop the reason you came to the movie from happening? It’s always a dance.”

The filmmaker added, “I don’t think the first two movies nailed it, but I don’t envy them the task. It was easier to have him in a group than to build everything around him. I don’t think there would be any problem getting a movie together that had enough Banner, even if there was also Hulk.”

Joss Whedon also stated that a Hulk movie without Bruce Banner could prove to be a problem for star Mark Ruffalo . As a result, the director stated that he would be “less inclined” to pursue a project that only featured the Hulk.

Mark Ruffalo recently addressed these Hulk rumors on Twitter. According to the actor, fans shouldn’t expect to see the character again until The Avengers 2 .

“A lot of folks have been asking about the next ‘Hulk.’ The next time you see my Hulk it will be in the ‘Avengers 2.’ No plans for stand alone,” Ruffalo wrote. “I am not giving up on another stand alone ‘Hulk.’ But it’s not in the works right now. One never knows what the future will bring.”

As it stands, it would seem that plans for a standalone Hulk movies are just rumors. In the meantime, fans can prepare themselves for Joss Whedon’s The Avengers 2 . The film is slated to arrive in theaters in 2015.

Do you agree with Joss Whedon that Hulk is Marvel’s more difficult property?
