Little Psy Goes Solo After ‘Gangnam Style’ Start [Video]

Known as Little Psy, seven-year-old Hwang Min-Woo, who featured as a cameo in the global YouTube phenomenon “Gangnam Style” — has gone solo.

A mini-me version of PSY, the superstar adult rapper he is named after, Little Psy has released his debut K-pop album Show+Time in his native Korea.

Ahead of its worldwide release MTV is rotating a 20 second teaser video for “Show+Time,” also the name of the first single off the album.

On Wednesday, Little Psy hosted a launch party for his album at a convention center in Seoul’s Nonhyeon-dong district Wednesday night.

In homage perhaps to PSY’s distinctive look in the viral hit “Gangnam Style,” — who he calls his “Big Brother” — the pint-sized artist wore a bright blue suit and black bow tie at the event.

Speaking on stage, Hwang told the audience: “I want to be a singer who is internationally-recognized like Psy. I will do my best to join the US Billboard chart’s top 10 with this album.”

“Psy bought me three pairs of sunglasses to celebrate my debut,” the budding star said later during his performance before putting on a pair of shades. “I will do my best with them.”

Little Psy’s album has been described as “mostly upbeat songs with catchy tunes” by musical press in The Korea Times.

Handled by management agency, Star Zone Entertainment, Hwang is currently promoting his album across territories in Asia. Produced by K-pop hitmaker Lee Jung-Min and songwriting team G-Bro, it has reportedly already caught a wave of support in China, Japan, China, Vietnam, and Singapore, where the style of K-pop is hugely popular.

Still only in the second-grade at Odung Elementary School in Seoul’s Gwangju district, the precocious performer has reportedly been dancing since he was three months old, and is now studying English and Chinese to help his career.

What do you think of Little Psy’s debut? Do you think it will eventually rival the one billion plus views earned by “Gangnam Style”?
