Ariana Grande Makes First Public Appearance Since Pete Davidson Split

Ariana Grande has stepped out on stage for the first time since breaking off her engagement to Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson. The singer appeared on stage to perform a song from the Broadway musical Wicked for an upcoming TV special. On Tuesday, she taped her performance of “The Wizard and I,” which will air later this month, according to Entertainment Tonight.

The 25-year-old pop star has largely remained under the radar since splitting up from Davidson over the weekend, but she made a quick appearance on social media to assure her fans that she would not miss her Wicked special performance.

“Honored to be included in this celebration of 15 years of my favorite musical of all time. wouldn’t miss it for the whole universe #wicked15,” Grande said on Instagram on Monday. She posted a photo of her script, which showed the lyrics to the popular song “The Wizard and I.” Then on Tuesday, TMZ published footage of the performer — who was appropriately dressed in green for the occasion — singing her heart out on stage.

Grande also shared a couple of pictures of her current look with her Instagram followers, in addition to a snap of her with legendary singer and Broadway actress Idina Menzel. Grande captioned the two of them together with: “if y’all told me ab any of this fifteen years ago……………………… bye.”

Her appearance came as news broke out that Davidson had canceled a scheduled comedy gig on Wednesday due to “personal reasons.” Fans were also quick to notice that during Grande’s Wicked taping, she seemed to have ditched her engagement ring — which she reportedly returned to him on Monday.

“Ariana has been going through a lot with the death of her ex, Mac Miller, her album launch and promotions and her newer relationship with Pete. Ariana and Pete decided for now the couple needed space, as they’ve been together non-stop since they started dating,” a source told ET.

The couple got engaged in May after dating for only a few weeks.

“There is a possibility the couple could get together as they really care for one another, but right now they just needed to step away and regain some clarity on their wants and needs,” the source added.

The power couple reportedly split up over the weekend following a whirlwind engagement that lasted five months. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, rumors are circulating that Davidson sent “intimate pictures” of the two of them to Grande’s ex-boyfriend — the late rapper Mac Miller — before the latter passed away via overdose. Miller’s death is also said to be one of the reasons why Grande and the 24-year-old SNL star called it quits, as the singer was said to be devastated and in need of time to heal.
