Busy Philipps Reveals She Turned To The Pope For Help After Having An Abortion At Age 15

It’s been a hectic few weeks for Busy Philipps, who recently announced she would be publishing her upcoming memoir This Will Only Hurt a Little.

The Cougar Town actress’s biography is filled with explosive revelations, including her abortion at the young age of 15. And according to Page Six, Philipps turned to none other than the Pope for help after experiencing the traumatic event.

In the book, the 39-year-old writes that after becoming pregnant with her first boyfriend’s child and having a termination, she was able to move past it after speaking to Pope John Paul II. Following her abortion, the Dawson’s Creek star went on a school trip to the Vatican in Rome, Italy, and spoke to the leader of the Catholic Church. She revealed she felt reassured after he spoke to her in Italian and made the sign of the cross.

“I never told this story publicly… I haven’t even told people I’m very close with.”

“It doesn’t work for me without getting the absolution I needed. And from the only person in the world who could give it to me: the Pope in Rome,” Philipps said.

The mother-of-two also revealed that her parents found out about it from reading her diary and that her boyfriend’s mother got involved and told her “You’re being selfish… You’re going to murder a baby.”

Fortunately, her own mother stood up for her and offered the support she needed at that age.

“My mother is who you want in your corner. She just supported and loved me,” Philipps wrote. The star also said that the date she spoke to the Pope “was my due date.”

Last month, Philipps revealed in a heartbreaking Instagram post that she had been raped at the age of 14. She said she decided to do so in support for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who testified against U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh after claiming he sexually assaulted her when they were teenagers.

“It’s taken me 25 years to say those words. I wrote about it in my book. I finally told my parents and sister about it 4 months ago. Today is the day we are silent no more. All of us. I’m scared to post this. I can’t imagine what Dr. Ford is feeling right now,” the actress wrote.

And this Monday, Philipps also alleged that her Freaks and Geeks co-star James Franco assaulted her on set while they were shooting for the ’90s TV show, as previously reported by the Inquistr. She said they have talked about it over the years, and that he apologized “at one point.”
