Robin Williams’ Pilot Picked Up By CBS

A new comedy starring Robin Williams has been picked up by CBS.

It was previously reported that Williams might star in the David E. Kelly written comedy pilot Crazy Ones.

Robin Williams took the role and it appears the decision has paid off. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Crazy Ones has been picked up by CBS, giving Williams his first starring role on the small screen since Mork and Mindy.

Mork and Mindy ran on ABC for four years from 1978 to 1982 and was about Ork (Williams character), an alien adjusting to life on Earth.

Robin Williams’ new pilot follows a father-daughter relationship at work and home. Entertainment Weekly reports that Williams character and his daughter work in the same advertising office together in the comedy.

Williams most recent guest starred on FX comedies Wilfred and Louie. Later this year he can be seen in the feature film The Butler, playing Dwight Eisenhower.

David E. Kelley most recently created and executive produced Harry’s Law for NBC starring Kathy Bates. He has another show, Monday Mornings, premiering on TNT tonight.

Crazy Ones also marks Kelly’s return to half hour comedy. He co-created Doogie Howser M.D., which ran on ABC from 1989 to 1993.

Robin Williams will be joining Eddie Murphy on CBS this fall. Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop update was also picked up by CBS. Murphy will be executive producing the show. He has not has a live-action TV role since he was a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1980-1984.
