A crash left 5 people killed on Interstate 95 in Florida when a Mercedes ran a red light and struck a Lexus.

Police said the two-vehicle crash took place on an exit ramp in South Florida . After the Mercedes ran the light, it plowed into a Lexus and sent the second car rolling over. The Lexus then struck two trees and several passenger were ejected, said Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Tim Frith.

“The Mercedes failed to stop for the traffic signal and T-boned the Lexus,” he said.

Of the 5 who were killed in the crash, 4 died at the scene while another died in the hospital, police said. All the victims were between the ages of 14 and 22.

The driver of the 2008 Mercedes was identified as 21-year-old Jabari S. Kemp. The car had just exited from the northbound lane of Interstate 95 at Blue Heron Boulevard when Kemp ran the light, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Authorities have identified some of the 5 people killed in the crash, including 21-year-old Jason A. Mahlung and 17-year-pld Shonteria Grimsley, both of Riviera Beach. Two of the females who died at the scene were not yet identified, and police were still working to notify the family of the 22-year-old male before releasing his identity to the press.

The crash took place just hours after another crash on Interstate 95 forced its closure for several hours. This crash took place in West Palm Beach, taking place just before 8 pm on Friday. There was a rollover in the northbound lane of I-95, forcing lane closures as authorities cleaned up the wreckage.

All 6 people injured in the West Palm Beach crash were expected to survive.

After the 5 people were killed in the crash, the driver of the Mercedes refused to cooperate with police. The driver was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, but a condition was not available.
