Bryan Twins Break Record For Grand Slam Doubles At Australian Open

The Bryan twins broke the record for most Grand Slam Double titles this weekend at the Australian open.

American twins Bob and Mike Bryan won their 13th doubles title together at the Australian Open on Saturday, beating the Dutch team of Robin Haase and Igor Sijsling 6-3 6-4.

With the win, the Bryan twins broke the record set by Australians John Newcombe and Tony Roche.

Mike told Yahoo Sports:

“Obviously it feels really good to have that record and to be a part of history feels really special. We weren’t thinking much about it on court but once we look back on our careers it will be fun to see what we have done. It’s a big record.”

The Australian Open notes that the Bryan twins have an Olympic Gold medal, a Davis Cup, and a full set of four majors on their trophy shelves back home. The two Americans still haven’t achieved a calendar-year Grand Slam and Bob, for one, doesn’t believe that it will happen.

Bob said that the competition is so stiff in Tennis at the moment that it would be hard for anyone to accomplish a calendar-year Grand Slam.

Bob said:

“I don’t think it’s possible anymore… The margins are too small and there are too many people who can win.

Are you surprised that the Bryan twins broke the Grand Slam Doubles record? Do you think they’ll ever achieve a calendar-year Grand Slam?
