Tetris The Board Game? Hasbro Signs Deal For Real World Versions

Hasbro has signed a deal with The Tetris Company which will bring the popular game Tetris to the real world.

Under terms of the deal Hasbro will secure the rights to manufacturer and distribute face-to-face games based on the Tetris brand. You read that right, there will be “games” as in plural/multiple.

The first two Hasbro created Tetris games will debut globally in August 2013.

The first game will be a Bop It! Tetris offering which challenges users to match Tetris block shapes as they light up.

The second offering will be Jenga Tetris which combines Jenga stacking with Tetris. The Jenga game will feature Tetris shaped blocks that make up the Jenga tower.

The Tetris brand has launched various games over the years and recently partnered with EA to bring its most popular game to iOS and Google Android-based devices. Tetris can also be played on the Nintendo Wii, DS, PS 3, PCs and other gaming platforms.

According to The Tetris Company the game is available in 95 percent of the world, including 185 countries.

In announcing the new partnership Hasbro notes that 35 million Tetris games are played everyday with more than 1 billion games completed per month.

Hasbro also recently signed a real-world gaming deal with EA Popcap. The Popcap deal will bring a real-world version of the popular internet game Bejeweled to the masses.

Tetris and Bejeweled are not the only popular games to receive real world adaptation, recently Rovio received various licensing deals for some creative non-electronic versions of its popular Angry Birds game.
