‘The Call’: First Trailer Starring Halle Berry And Abigail Breslin [Video]

The first trailer for The Call starring Halle Berry has arrived.

Nutshelled, the plot tells the story of Jordan (Berry), a 911 emergency operator takes call from a teenage girl (played by Abigail Breslin) who has just been abducted.

Cue frantic attempts by Berry to find the girl and rescue her and an eventual, horrifying realization that she is dealing with a possible serial killer.

In the 2:30 clip, The Call’s premise poses three stark questions on the screen:

“What if you heard the sound of an intruder? What if you heard the cries of a victim? What if you made a mistake that cost someone their life?”

Sometimes it’s difficult with quick edit trailers to tell if the product is any good. One shot in particular of Breslin when she’s dragged from underneath a bed by unseen hands, looks straight like a lift from the kidnap shocker Taken with Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace.

But with any luck, this film will be more than a find-the-girl-before-she-dies matinee, and Berry — coming off her many character turn in Tom Tykwer, Andy and Lana Wachcowski’s 2012 Cloud Atlas — will bring her Academy Award winner caliber to the table.

Breslin, now 16, delivered commendably nuanced performances in M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs and Little Miss Sunshine and could also elevate this ride from routine to gripping.

Directed by Brad Anderson (The Machinist and an extensive background in television), it also stars Morris Chestnut, Michael Eklund, Ella Rae Peck, Steven Williams, Roma Maffia, and Michael Imperioli, TriStar’s The Call hits US theaters on March 15.

Here’s the trailer. First impressions?
