Belly Ballot Makes Baby Name Predictions For 2013, Some Are Just Strange

As 2013 approaches, it won’t just be celebrities and sports stars choosing to name their children Apple, Orange Juice, and whatever other stupid names will place more attention on the parent. In fact, many popular names could come to life thanks to tech trends, the want to use last names as first names, and more.

The team at Belly Ballot has compiled some of the trends they are already beginning to see, and it looks like names that were never considered “normal” could end up in the spotlight, while some naming conventions we would never have thought up will also come to pass.

The naming data was compiled from a list of more than 1,000 parents on the company’s website along with their friends and family members.

The first trend will be towards tech inspired names such as the little baby Hashtag, who will forever be teased 10 years down the road when Twitter is irrelevant and internet users have moved on. Predicted for 2013 are Tweet, Android, and Kindle.

Another big trend is multiple names. No longer is “John Smith” good enough. Instead, thanks to Uma Thurman naming her baby girl Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Thurman-Busson, parents might be looking for extremely long and pointless names.

For older citizens, they may appreciate some classic name returns including the always sexy Pearl and Eleanor along with Albert and Bertha.

Dyslexic parents may appreciate the use of last names as first names. From Drake and Hayes to Brick, parents may end up playing a 180 on naming conventions in 2013.

Finally, parents may look for strange spellings for their child’s name, for example, Braedyn and Josilyn.

According to Belly Ballot cofounder Lacey Moler:

“We can’t wait to see what happens for 2013. No matter what though, it appears that it will be the most interesting and diverse year for naming trends ever.”

Do you think baby names are becoming more about attention than anything else?
