Reason Why WWE Released Summer Rae And Darren Young Revealed

The WWE released three superstars earlier this week as part of their annual budget cuts. Emma was the biggest name released and she was followed by Summer Rae and Darren Young. Emma's release was a quite surprise while Summer and Young are not since they have not been seen on WWE television for a while.

As announced by the official WWE website, the company parted ways with Emma, Summer Rae, and Darren Young on October 29. Emma and Summer were with the WWE from 2011 to 2017 while Young was signed in 2009. More releases are expected to come but the decision to let these three WWE superstars go was made during a budget meeting with Vince McMahon.

According to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Emma had considerable backstage heat and she was having problems with members of the WWE creative team. As for Summer and Young, their releases are budget-related and they have not appeared on WWE television for quite some time due to their respective injuries.

Summer Rae spent two years at WWE developmental before being called up in 2013 as the dance partner of Fandango. After a year with Fandango, Summer became a singles wrestler and she had feuds with superstars like Layla, Emma, and Lana. She even landed a role for The Marine 4: Moving Target, which might be her best accomplishment in the WWE.

The 33-year-old superstar battled injuries for more than a year and she became inactive since getting drafted to Monday Night Raw last year. Summer's career might have taken a hit when she was involved in the cringe-worthy storyline with Rusev, Lana, and Dolph Ziggler in 2015.

Meanwhile, Darren Young suffered an arm injury in January and he was inactive until his release. His most recent appearance for the WWE was days before his release at the Staples Center for a Los Angeles Clippers game. Young was with fellow WWE superstars The Miz, Enzo Amore, and Becky Lynch.

Young was the first ever WWE superstar to come out as gay while signed with the company in 2013. He made his debut as part of the first season of NXT and he was an original member of The Nexus. Young is a one-time WWE Tag Team champion with Titus O'Neil as part of the Primetime Players. He tried to revive his career as Bob Backlund's protégé, but it failed miserably.

While Emma and Summer Rae have released statements regarding their departures from the WWE, Darren Young has remained quiet. Although some reports suggest that there might be more releases coming, the WWE has not announced additional superstars getting cut.
