‘Star Wars Rebels’ Season 4 Might Feature Cassian Andor’s Backstory, More ‘Rogue One’ Connections [Spoilers]

The final season of Star Wars Rebels certainly isn’t wasting time in pushing towards the original film trilogy. The animated series has unleashed two back-to-back episodes and even made sure that Saw Gerrera would return in Season 8. So is it possible that the show will feature more awesome connections to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story? There are speculations that the origin story of important characters like Captain Cassian Andor will be explored in the eighth season.

The fate of the characters in Rogue One was rather straightforward. After setting off on a mission to procure the plans for the Empire’s deadliest weapon, Cassian Andor was killed along with thousands of others in Scarif. Nevertheless, the Gareth Edwards film also featured several connections to the Disney XD animated series Star Wars Rebels, leading to speculations that the final season will feature references to Rogue One. Is there hope that fans will learn how Cassian ended up fighting for the Rebel Alliance?

Dave Filoni recently spoke to Comicbook.com about Star Wars Rebels Season 4. Although the series has already featured characters from the original film trilogy like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Mon Mothma, the showrunner insisted that the show is “completely separate from the rest of Star Wars in that it doesn’t rely on any other Star Wars content to help explain its story.” However, Filoni also teased that the animated series will eventually lead up to events that took place just a few years before Rogue One begins.

There are speculations that the conclusion of Star Wars Rebels could show a young boy who will eventually grow up to be Captain Cassian Andor. Some even believe that there will be references to Orson Krennic and Galen Erso, the two people who made the creation of the Death Star possible. Sadly, fans might also learn how Saw Gerrera went from being an active Rebel fighter to the recluse that appeared in Rogue One.

It is still unclear what will happen in the final season. In the meantime, Star Wars Rebels Season 4 Episode 5 is titled “The Occupation” and is scheduled to air on Disney XD on October 30.
