Quite literally, Amazon is taking over the world, starting with their CEO.
According to CNN Money , Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has just dethroned Bill Gates to claim the title of the richest person in the world. In just three months, Amazon made over a quarter of a billion dollars in profit as their stock saw a 13.5 percent jump. After the most recent earning statement was released, Bezos made around $7 billion overnight, bringing his net worth to a whopping $90 billion.
CNBC reports that Microsoft also reported recent gains where their founder Bill Gates made around $550 million after their earnings report. That puts Gates’ net worth somewhere in the ballpark of $88.5 billion, just slightly behind that of Bezos’.
But depending on whether or not Microsoft and Amazon go up or down over the next few months, Gates could regain the title of world’s richest man at some point in the near future. CNBC also reports that Bezos held the title of richest man for one day this past July when Amazon’s stock reached over $1,000 a share.
According to Bloomberg , Gates had previously held the title of world’s richest man since 2013. The 61-year-old also donated $4.6 billion of Microsoft stock to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation last year.

Though he has not made any posts regarding his recent new title, many fans of the Amazon founder took to Bezos’ last Instagram photo to congratulate him on the great news because it’s not everyday you get to be crowned the richest man in the world.

Since creating the Instagram account, Bezos has begun to gain a ton of popularity with over 57,000 followers. Most of his photos are business related but gain thousands of likes as well as hundreds of comments.
According to Business Insider , Bezos founded Amazon in 1995 . In the beginning, Amazon just sold books but later branched out and began to sell basically everything, which was always Bezos’ vision for the website.
The 53-year-old makes his home in Seattle, Washington, with his wife MacKenzie. The couple have four children together.
