Senator Ben Affleck? Actor/Director Plays Coy On Political Ambitions

Actor and director Ben Affleck‘s name keeps coming up in political conversations, with some pundits putting him up for a potential seat in Congress. Affleck’s response? No comment … for now.

In case you couldn’t tell from his political thriller Argo, Affleck is quite interested in politics, having lately attempted to get the US involved in the Congo’s violent conflict. MSN notes that if the rumors are true, and Senator John Kerry steps down to take Hillary Clinton’s Secretary of State seat, Affleck’s home state of Massachusetts will need a new senator.

Affleck is in Washington DC this week, but when he was asked about the possibility of becoming “Senator Ben Affleck” one day, the acclaimed actor and director played coy.

“That’s not what I’m here to talk about. I’m here to talk about what role we can place in making the Eastern Congo a better place.”

Well, you can talk about that as a senator, too.

Still, if his multiple appearances on Real Time With Bill Maher are any indication, Affleck hasn’t closed the door on politics, or even running for office one day, reports Entertainment Weekly.

“One never knows. I’m not one to get into conjecture,” Affleck continued. “I do have a great fondness and admiration for the political process in this country. It’s a big deal for me to come down here and be on your show that I’ve watched so much, but I’m not going to get into speculation about my political future.”

I personally hope Ben Affleck never runs for office. Not because I don’t think he’d do a great job, but because I can’t imagine not having a new Ben Affleck-directed film to look forward to every couple of years. Say what you will about the man as an actor, the dude can make one heck of a movie.

Still, what do you think? Senator Ben Affleck one day? It does kind of roll off the tongue.
