Bryan Singer Developing ‘Twilight Zone’ Reboot For CBS TV Studios
Bryan Singer has closed a deal with CBS TV Studios to develop and executive produce a reboot of theTwilight Zone, Deadline reports.
CBS TV Studios ran and has the rights to the original series, and also ran the first revival of the series. While the reboot has not been pitched to networks yet, it would make sense for it to go to CBS because of the network’s history with the series.
A Twilight Zone feature film is also in the works. Warner Bros. chose Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves to direct the film, which will be scripted by Jason Rothenberg and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s company Appian Way. Reeves is also developing This Dark Endeavor, based on Kenneth Oppel’s novel of the same name.
The original Twilight Zone series ran on CBS from 1959 to 1964. The first revival ran from 1985 to 1989. The revival hosted by Forest Whitaker was run by UPN and only lasted one season in 2002.
As we previously reported, Singer was also at the helm of NBC’s Mockingbird Lane, a reboot of the Munsters. The reboot never made it to air as a series, but it did air as an hourlong Halloween special on October 28.
Singer is now working on X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to X-Men: First Class. Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart have all been confirmed for the film, and there are reports that Alan Cumming may be returning as Nightcrawler. The film is set to begin production early next year, and is expected to be released on July 18, 2014.
