Actor Gerard Depardieu Puts Paris Mansion Up For Sale

French actor Gerard Depardieu is getting out of Dodge, actually Paris to be exact.

He has put his Paris mansion up for sale, presumably because he is serious about moving to Belgium to avoid France’s new 75 percent millionaires tax.

As The Inquisitr has previously reported, France’s most famous actor has already bought a home in the village of Nechin in Belgium, just over the border from his home country, and may seek residency or citizenship there.

According to Reuters, the actor’s Paris home is a historical landmark, but he’s apparently giving it up anyway:

“Depardieu, the latest wealthy Frenchman to seek shelter from government tax hikes, is selling a vast early 19th-century manor house in the Saint Germain district of the capital, playground of writers, jazz musicians and art dealers over the decades.

“His real estate agent declined to say how much he was asking for a property that is on a list of protected national monuments and, as well as the main house, has a swimming pool, landscaped gardens and an ultramodern annex that once served as a theater …

“The move [to Belgium] comes three months after Bernard Arnault, chief executive of luxury giant LVMH and France’s richest man, caused an uproar by seeking to establish residency in Belgium – a move he said was not for tax reasons.”

Some members of President Francois Hollande’s socialist government want to strip French people of their citizenship if they relocate to another country to avoid a tax levy. The country’s prime minister specifically deemed Depardieu, 63, “pathetic” and “unpatriotic” for his alleged tax avoidance as France struggles with its massive debt.

Depardieu’s Paris home could be worth in the range of $20 million to $50 million in US dollars, which is going to provide a sweet commission for the real estate agent who makes the deal.

Do you think Gerard Depardieu is being unpatriotic by reportedy moving to Belgium?
