The year is coming to a close and you know that means: Endless end of the year lists. Google recently unveiled its 2012 Zeitgeist website where the search engine giant explores the biggest trends of 2012.

Google writes:

“On our 2012 Zeitgeist website, you can explore the most popular and hottest trending search terms from around the world.”

Google’s 2012 Zeitgeist website includes data from over a trillion searches in 55 countries. The search engine giant has also created an interactive map so users can see where and when certain search terms spiked around the world.

So what were the most searched for terms around the world? The top 10 list includes recently deceased celebrities, hot new products, natural disasters and hit songs.

Here are the 10 most searched for terms worldwide.

  3. Hurricane Sandy
  4. iPad 3
  5. Diablo 3
  6. Kate Middleton
  7. Olympics 2012
  8. Amanda Todd
  9. Michael Clarke Duncan

The top 10 list in the United States contained many of the same search terms. Americans also searched for news about the 2012 election, the Hunger Games, and Jeremy Lin.

The people of the world wanted to see pictures of One Direction, Hurricane Sandy was the most searched for event (followed by Kate Middleton’s nude pics), and the iPad 3 was the most popular product.
