Kim Kardashian Shows Support For Gun Control, Urges Fans To #WearOrange

Kim Kardashian recently expressed her support for gun control as she urged fans to #WearOrange.

On Friday, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star posted a lengthy message on her official website to commemorate the National Gun Violence Awareness Day. The 36-year-old mother of two did not hold back in voicing out her views about various issues regarding gun control.

Kim, who has teamed up with gun control organization Everytown, revealed some shocking facts about the long-time problem with gun violence.

In her statement, Kardashian pointed out some alarming details about gun ownership and the danger that comes along with it, particularly if not handled responsibly.

“In almost 20 years, our country has made very little progress in enacting laws that would help protect innocent Americans from people who should not have access to firearms,” the reality star stated.

“Right now, there are more guns owned by civilians in this country than in any other country in the world.”

The Glam Masters star also pointed out President Donald Trump’s move of killing a regulation that would have tightened gun background checks.

“In February of this year President Trump actually signed a bill revoking a regulation recommended by President Obama that would have added 75,000 names of people with registered mental illness to a national background check database. This is crazy!”

It can be recalled that in February, Trump signed a bill into law, to undo former President Barack Obama’s regulation that made it harder for people suffering from mental illnesses to purchase and own a gun.

During Obama’s term, he recommended a rule that requires the Social Security Administration to submit records of mentally disabled people to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System — the database used by the FBI to determine whether someone is qualified to legally purchase a firearm.

According to reports, Obama’s now-nullified regulation would have applied to about 75,000 people who were “adjudicated as a mental defective.” The former president recommended the rule following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, which left 20 young students and six others dead.

Kim Kardashian also shared her views on the second amendment, noting that it’s best to have an open discussion about the matter.

“Is it more important to protect the second amendment than to protect our own children? Maybe you think so, maybe you don’t — but it’s important for us to at least continue to discuss and debate this openly, and to bring attention to the reality of gun violence and gun control.”

The eldest Kardashian sister also recalled her traumatic Paris heist, claiming that responsible gun ownership has played a huge role in terms of her security.

“I’m not against guns and I’m not against people owning guns. After what happened to me in Paris, I know how important it is to be safe and to have armed security.”

The social media queen also encouraged her fans to #WearOrange to support her advocacy on gun control. Kim posted an animated version of herself wearing an orange dress while posing on an orange background.

Kardashian was just one of many celebrities that showed their support for the said cause. Other personalities who joined the trend included Amy Schumer, Julianne Moore, and Ron Howard.

In the end, the reality star concluded her message on a positive note, expressing her desire to have a better and safer society for her children and the rest of the American people.

“I want to help build a safer future for my children and I believe together we can find ways to do that, while still protecting the rights of the American people.”
