EXO’s Kai And f(x)’s Krystal’s Break-Up: Reason Why They Ended Their Relationship

EXO idol Kai and f(x)’s Krystal have pulled the plug on their one-year relationship. They have reportedly broken up because of their busy schedules.

Kai and Krystal began dating sometime in the beginning of last year. Soon after breaking the news about their relationship, Dispatch reported that the couple made time to meet each other between their busy overseas schedules, according to Soompi. The report also called the two Korean idols well-matched because of their similar looks, tastes, and hobbies.

Now it seems like the couple’s relationship has crumbled because they were no longer able to make time for each other. A source close to the couple, who are both managed by S.M. Entertainment, first leaked the news about Kai and Krystal’s split, adding that they were unable to meet because of their busy schedules and would like to focus on their respective careers.

“It is true that the two have broken up. They’ve been unable to meet often because of their busy schedules. I don’t know the exact reason for their breakup but I think they’ve both decided to focus on their careers.”

S.M. Entertainment, too, has confirmed that Krystal and Kai have broken up via a one-line statement. They said, “Yes, it is correct that they have broken up.”

Krystal and Kai first met as trainees in 2007 and became good friends, and because of their friendship, people thought that they were in a relationship, according to Dispatch. They reportedly developed romantic feelings for each other only in spring of last year. Last year, there were also rumors that Kai and Krystal were living together.

In September of last year, rumors about Krystal and Kai’s wedding started to swirl after they were spotted wearing matching couple rings. According to Koreaboo, netizens did some digging and discovered that the couple rings were similar to Cartier’s engagement rings sold under their Wedding Band collection.

Meanwhile, Korean netizens have reacted to the news about the couple’s break-up. Some were sad to see the two popular K-pop idols going their separate ways, while others rubbished the “busy schedule” excuse.

One of the netizens said, “100% of celebrity break-ups are because of ‘busy schedules’ when you barely ever see them on TV as it is,” while another said, “No matter much they match, idols lose a lot more than they gain from these relationships.”

Some netizens are also questioning the timing of the break-up, saying that break-up articles always surface before comebacks.

Korean-Chinese K-pop group EXO, who recently celebrated their fifth debut anniversary, is expected to return with their new album soon. Last month, after completing their third concert tour The EXOr’DIUM, EXO idol Baekhyun revealed the group’s comeback plans, saying that they would be returning this summer.

“Our title track has already been decided. It is a track that all the members and the agency is satisfied with, so we have a lot of expectations. We will be returning this summer.”

Krystal, on the other hand, is busy filming her new drama Bride of the Water God, which premieres on tvN on July 3. She has been cast opposite Nam Joo Hyuk in the drama. There were also reports that Krystal would be making her solo debut soon. S.M. Management, however, denied the reports about the release of her solo mini-album.

Kai and Krystal are not the only labelmates from the S.M. Entertainment agency who have dated and gone separate ways after a year. EXO idol Baekhyun ánd Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon had confirmed they were dating in 2014. They, too, ended their relationship after a year, saying they were breaking up because of their busy schedules.
