Player Collapses At Practice: Utah State Guard Danny Berger In Critical Condition, Game Postponed

A Utah State player collapses at practice on Tuesday as he is rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, leaving his team in limbo for what will happen next.

Danny Berger, a shooting guard at Utah State, collapsed during a team practice on Tuesday afternoon after suffering what doctors would later describe as a serious medical situation.

The player reportedly stopped breathing after losing consciousness, The Associated Press noted.

After the player collapses at practice, USU athletic training staff rushed in and administered CPR as well as an automated external defibrillator (AED), the Deseret News reported. Berger was then taken by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital before being flown by helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah.

Intermountain Medical Center spokesman Jess Gomez said on Wednesday morning that Danny Berger remained in critical condition there.

The cause of the player’s collapse is not yet known, and doctors said they are conducting ongoing tests and evaluations.

A junior from Oregon, Berger is in his second year with the team and is averaging 7.6 points and 3.6 rebounds. He has started in all five games for the Aggies so far this season.

He was participating in a final practice before the team’s planned trip to Provo on Tuesday to take on BYU. The team called off the trip, with many players staying in Logan on Tuesday night.

There are encouraging signs after the player collapses at practice. Redshirt freshman guard Quincy Blair tweeted, “Just talked to Danny’s brother sounds like he’s doing good.”
