Frankfurt Vs. Dortmund: Live Stream, Preview, Where To Watch 2017 DFB Pokal Final
Eintracht Frankfurt is looking to win their first trophy since 1998 when they face off against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, May 27 in the 2017 DFP Pokal Final. Frankfurt is the underdog but they have a win over Dortmund this season in the Bundesliga. On the other hand, Dortmund is hoping that the fourth time is the charm as they try to win their first real trophy since winning the domestic double in 2012.
Frankfurt has won the DFB Pokal four times with their last triumph coming in 1988. The Eagles also won the trophy back in 1974, 1975 and 1988. They reached the DFB Pokal Final in 1964 and most recently in 2006 when they lost to Bayern Munich.
The 2017 DFB Pokal Final is the fourth-straight final for Dortmund. Since winning the DFB Pokal in 2012, the Black and Yellows reached the DFB Pokal Final for four straight years after getting eliminated by Bayern in the 2013 quarterfinals. Dortmund lost 2-0 to Bayern in 2014, 3-1 to Wolfsburg in 2015 and 4-3 in penalties to Bayern last year.
Saturday’s final is the third Frankfurt vs. Dortmund game of the season. Each team has a win over the other in 2016-17 Bundesliga season. Frankfurt defeated Dortmund on Nov. 26, 2016, with a score of 2-1 at the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt while Dortmund got one back on April 15 at the Signal Iduna Park when they ran rampant against Frankfurt and beat them 3-1.
In a press conference in Berlin (courtesy of GOAL.com), Dortmund head coach Thomas Tuchel said that he is getting goosebumps just thinking about how they got in the 2017 DFB Pokal Final. The Black and Yellows have had an up-and-down season in the Bundesliga wherein they finished third behind Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig. Dortmund was also eliminated in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals by Monaco wherein a bomb attack on the team bus last month completely rattled the club, players, and fans.
“I am getting goosebumps when I look at our path to the final. We have watched these images over and over again over the past few weeks. Some amazing stories have taken place. Now we are here for the final and we want to win it. We have been here before and that gives us a certain calm, but we are facing a tough opponent. There is no doubt about it. It will be a tight affair.”
Frankfurt head coach Niko Kovac knows that Dortmund is the superior team, but he believes that they can pull off the upset, as reported by FourFourTwo. Kovac has a lot of confidence in his squad, and they will throw everything at Dortmund in the 2017 DFB Pokal Final.
However, the main talk heading into the final is not about Frankfurt vs. Dortmund but the future of Dortmund superstar Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon striker was the top scorer in the Bundesliga this season with 31 goals and he has been linked with a move away from Dortmund.
According to a report by German sports news outlet Bild, Aubameyang has handed in a transfer request to the Dortmund board, and he wants to leave the club this summer. Dortmund and the player have not confirmed the transfer request but it comes at a very delicate time for the club. Will the rumors affect Dortmund against Frankfurt?
