Burglar Falls Asleep On Couch During Home Invasion

Frederick, MD – A weary burglar reportedly fell asleep on a stranger’s couch after breaking into the residence, according to The Associated Press.

Authorities were summoned to the home in question on Sunday evening after the owner discovered the man sleeping on her couch downstairs. Understandably unnerved by this peculiar encounter, she quickly picked up the phone and called the police.

The Frederick News-Post explains that officers woke 36-year-old Kevin Thursun Siddique after arriving at the scene of the crime. When asked what he was doing sleeping on a stranger’s couch, Siddique said that he thought he was in his own house.

Police determined that the alleged burglar gained access to the house by entering through an unlocked door. The homeowner’s keys were reportedly left in the lock by mistake. For his role in this oddball crime, Siddique is being charged with fourth degree burglary.

The suspect is presently being held at the County Adult Detention Center until someone shows up to post the $5,000 bail.

Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time someone has fallen asleep during an alleged burglar attempt. Time reports that a Oregon man fell asleep while gathering items inside a stranger’s home back in September. At some point during the crime, the suspect decided to take a short nap on the kitchen floor.

“Upon arrival, the deputies found the residence had been ransacked in an apparent attempt to steal valuables. Deputies believe Villarreal-Castillo entered the residence through an unlocked door but fell asleep while he was gathering items,” The Oregonian explained.

Police also found objects from another break-in the suspect allegedly committed hours before falling asleep in the victim’s home. For his crimes, Cristian Villarreal-Castillo was charged with burglary and theft. His bail was set at $100,000.
