‘Outlander’ Season 3: Sam Heughan And Caitriona Balfe Get Personal During Drinking Game
Outlander Season 3 doesn’t air until September, but if you’ve been dying to know whether series stars Sam Heughan (Jamie) and Caitriona Balfe (Claire) have ever gone skinny-dipping, your big moment has arrived.
To celebrate World Whiskey Day, the impossibly good-looking Outlander actors sat down with Entertainment Tonight to play the classic drinking game “Never Have I Ever,” in which participants must take a sip of alcohol each time they are guilty of committing any act named by the interviewer.
Thankfully, the game proved that neither Heughan nor Balfe have ever gone an entire week without taking a shower.
“That’s disgusting, I would never do that,” Heughan said.
However, when the question of skinny-dipping came up, the co-stars shared a sideways glance with each other and took a sip from their whiskey glasses. Busted!
“This is a dangerous game,” quipped Heughan.
Indeed. Experienced players of “Never Have I Ever” know that no secret — or liver — is safe during a good game.
So, has either Outlander star ever run a red light? Yep.
Though after sipping his whiskey, Heughan tried to argue that “you’re allowed to [run red lights] in America.”
“No, you’re not!” Balfe countered, with a laugh. “I have the tickets to prove it.”
Both actors are also guilty of dancing to a Justin Bieber song and sending a text — or in Balfe’s case, a voicemail message — to the wrong person, too.
“I was at college, and I called in sick, but then I called somebody else because I was having a party at my house, but I called my boss and left a voicemail,” she confessed.
On the other hand, neither Balfe nor Heughan has had any luck talking themselves out of traffic tickets.
“No,” Balfe said. “Honestly, I have zero game when it comes to talking myself out of speeding tickets, parking tickets.”
Heughan has had no better luck.
“My first ticket I got in America, not only was I parked the wrong direction, I was parked too far from the curb and in a place I was not allowed to park,” he laughed. “There was a whole list of things I had done wrong. So, yeah, it was good.”
Cops in America clearly aren’t Outlander fans.
Of course, when Heughan and Balfe aren’t busy being adorable playing drinking games, they’re busy completing Outlander Season 3. Right now, the show’s cast and crew are ensconced in Cape Town, South Africa, filming the Jamaica sequences from Voyager, the third book in best-selling author Diana Gabaldon’s popular Outlander series.
Gabaldon recently visited the cast — who are filming on the sets of fellow Starz series Black Sails — and recounted a funny tale about Heughan during an interview with the Scottish Sun.
“They have these incredible full-sized ships with hydraulics on set which make them pitch and yaw like real ones,” she said.
“Sam had to throw up for one scene as it’s no spoiler to say that Jamie Fraser gets seasick. He was standing there with a page of script in his hand looking more than disheveled, and he said to me he thought he really was going to be sick.”
“Sam said, ‘They’ve given me egg whites tinted green with the most disgusting vanilla essence in it. And I have to hold it in my mouth until it’s time to throw up.'”
“Of course, they shot the scene over and over again and at about the sixth time, Sam looked at the glass of egg whites before saying, ‘F**k my life.’ So acting is not all glamorous.”
So the next time poor Sam Heughan plays “Never Have I Ever,” he can take a drink when asked if he’s ever thrown up green-tinted egg whites on a ship!
Outlander Season 3 returns to Starz in September.
