‘Vikings,’ Season 4 Part 2, Episode 14 Preview: Lagertha Vs. Aslaug And Ragnar Vs. King Ecbert

Episode 13 of Season 4 of History’s Vikings ended with a couple of cliffhangers. So, will Episode 14 reveal the fates of Lagertha, Aslaug, Ragnar, and Ivar?

SPOILER ALERT: This article discusses Episode 14 of Season 4 of History Channel’s Vikings. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

Episode 13 of Vikings ended with Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) attempting to claim Kattegat as her own, even though she was conflicted at having to attack her own people. Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) was seen carrying out a ceremonial sword, and it is anyone’s guess at what she is planning to do with it. As for Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and his son, Ivar the Boneless (Alex Hogh), they surrendered to an English village. So, what does Episode 14 have in store for them?

The synopsis for Episode 14 (entitled “In the Uncertain Hour Before the Morning”), according to TV, is below.

“Lagertha is near realizing a long-held ambition; Ragnar acquires a surprising concession from King Ecbert.”

If this synopsis is correct, it indicates Lagertha’s hold on Kattegat is coming to fruition. However, while it suggests a successful outcome, there is still room for something to go wrong with the synopsis for Episode 14 stopping short of saying Lagertha does take over Kattegat. The trailer for Episode 14 of Vikings shows Lagertha and Aslaug confronting each other in Kattegat, with Lagertha calling Aslaug a witch. As Aslaug points out, Ragnar chose to be with her, but then tells Lagertha she will get back her “hearth and home.” The wording on this is interesting. While some would assume Aslaug is throwing in the towel as she throws down the ceremonial sword, she is actually just referring to Lagertha’s home, not Kattegat as a whole.

The second part of the synopsis for Episode 14 of Vikings gives away some valuable information about Ragnar’s fate as well. It seems the village he is arrested in is either where King Ecbert (Linus Roache) is currently residing, or it is close by as the synopsis indicates Ragnar and King Ecbert meet. And, the trailer for Episode 14 of Vikings confirms this.

The trailer shows King Ecbert asking Ragnar why it took him so long to return to England and confront the king about his attack on the Viking village all those years ago. Ragnar is trapped inside a cage but offers up a reason.

“It’s part of a larger and bolder strategy.”

So, does Ragnar mean this, or is he just bluffing? Only by tuning into Episode 14 of Season 4 of Vikings will reveal the answer.

Even though King Ecbert told his son in Episode 13 that Ragnar was “just a man,” in Episode 14, he declares to Ragnar that he is “the most dangerous man on Earth,” indicating Ecbert might be more scared of Ragnar than he is admitting to his son, Aethelwulf (Moe Dunford). King Ecbert is then seen opening the cage Ragnar is confined to, which is a good indicator Episode 14 and the following, Episode 15, will consist of the two episodes involving King Ecbert and Ragnar that Linus Roache and Travis Fimmel hinted would be epic in a recent interview they did with AOL Build. This also is the episode where Ragnar utters the line from the initial Season 4 Part 2 trailer, “Don’t be afraid,” so viewers will finally get to see this line as it plays out.

Neither the synopsis or the trailer for Episode 14 of Season 4 of Vikings involve Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig), so it is possible Episode 14 will not deal with him and his Uncle Rollo (Clive Standen) as they set sail for the Mediterranean. This will be a shame for fans of Rollo who had to wait until Episode 13 to catch a glimpse of their favorite character.

As yet, no official promotional images for Episode 14 of Vikings Season 4 have been released by History.
