Gigi Hadid Follows In Kendall Jenner And Selena Gomez’s Footsteps By Taking A Social Media Break
Gigi Hadid is the next young starlet who wants to take a break from social media. It seems like young stars today get their first big break thanks to their massive social media followings. Gigi is one of those social media darlings that gets tired of being on her phone all the time.
The 21-year-old has had enough of social media and is taking a break over the holidays. Hadid revealed to PeopleStyle earlier this week at Reebok’s Perfect Never campaign launch in New York City that she’s taking a break from both Instagram and Twitter. Hadid just wants to focus on herself and her career around the holiday season.
“It’s not only for people in the spotlight, it’s for everyone,” she said. “At the end of the day, I’m choosing what I’m showing you. A lot of the world feels so much entitlement in other people’s lives, which is so crazy and so new for human beings. We never had that.”
Gigi said that she wants to take a “month” off from being on social media, which she also urges her fans to do as well. She said that doing a regular cleanse from the social networking apps will also help her get over the constant negativity and hate that abounds.
“I’m going to take a break when I feel like it and when I come back and share it with you if you want to be supportive and still follow me I’m so grateful for that,” she added. “But if you’re going to be negative or be upset that I had to be a human for a month then maybe I don’t want to follow you anyway.”

Hadid finds social media “empowering,” and believes it’s a great way to connect with her fans. She understands that it has given her a career and a platform, but she also respects her career more when she’s not on social media as much. Hadid says she wants to focus more on her career, develop genuine relationships in the industry, and look to the designers that inspire her. As previously mentioned, Hadid is the latest star to take a break from social media.
Pop star Selena Gomez opened up about her social media hiatus, which she took for three months. While taking part in Thrive Global’s questionnaire earlier this month, the 23-year-old opened up about her break and why it was “refreshing” for her.
“I recently took 90 days off,” she admitted. “During that time I did not have my cellphone. It was the most refreshing, calming, rejuvenating feeling. Now I rarely pick up my phone, and only limited people have access to me.”
Gomez made her first public appearance at the 2016 American Music Awards since announcing that she was taking “time off” from her music career to deal with symptoms of depression and anxiety stemming from her battle with lupus. Gomez briefly broke her social media absence to share a warm message with her fans around Thanksgiving.

In the questionnaire, Gomez also revealed that “staying healthy (mentally, physically, emotionally) and learning new things” are what gives her energy. She also added that she would rather talk on the phone than text or respond to emails and when she has time to herself, she likes to read affirmations, cook, or nap.
Gigi Hadid’s BFF and fellow model Kendall Jenner took an Instagram “detox” after seven days. Fans freaked out when they looked at the model’s account and discovered that it was deleted. Kendall explained the incident to Ellen DeGeneres on her show a few days after the meltdown, according to InStyle.
“It’s so crazy to me that it even became huge news like that,” she said. “I just wanted to detox. I felt like, I just wanted a little of a break. I’m always on it. I would wake up in the morning and I would look at it first thing. I would go to bed and it was the last thing I would look at. I felt a little too dependent on it so I kind of wanted to take a minute to detox.”

But Jenner resurfaced on Instagram with some new photography shots of her friends seen having a great time at a concert. She even gave herself full credited for taking the photos.
