Darth Vader And Princess Leia Cameos In ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’

Talking Star Wars: Rogue One cameos, director Gareth Edwards gives Darth Vader a big yes, Luke Skywalker a big no, and Princess Leia, a big mysterious answer.

Star Wars: Rogue One is almost upon us and Star Wars fans everywhere just can’t seem to sit tight in their seats for the premiere. Set after the formation of the Galactic Empire, a couple of years before the original Star Wars timeline, Star Wars: Rogue One will be following Rebel Alliance recruit Jyn Erso as she steals the design schematics of the Empire’s new superweapon, the Death Star.

While, of course, we have yet to know the full story behind Rogue One, we already have an idea that setting the movie in a timeline so close to the events of the first Star Wars movie will inspire fans to postulate on which original Star Wars characters are getting screen time on Rogue One.

Since Rogue One is taking place at the height of the Empire’s power, Birth Movies Death has pretty much postulated as early as July last year that Darth Vader will be making an appearance in Star Wars: Rogue One. Darth Vader won’t be the main antagonist of Rogue One, sadly, but we sure are not getting denied of his evil huffs and puffs and telekinetic choke holds.

Darth Vader cameo, check. If an evil original character is making an appearance on Rogue One, should we also assume that someone from the good side will make a cameo, too? Well, if you’re thinking Luke Skywalker, right off the bat prepare yourself to be disappointed.

Inverse reports that in an interview with the Rogue One director on French TV network TF1, Edwards was quick to answer that no, Luke Skywalker is not in Rogue One. This, of course, led the interviewers to ask if another much-loved Star Wars character could make an appearance. Will Princess Leia make a cameo in Rogue One? Unlike Edward’s swift “no” with Luke Skywalker, his mysterious reply to Princess Leia was “I cannot answer. I don’t want to ruin it for people.” That’s already basically a not “no!” So is that a yes?

From a story perspective, Princess Leia on Rogue One is pretty much solid. A previous Inverse report confirmed that Leia’s adoptive father, Bail Organa (which will be played by Jimmy Smits), will return in Rogue One. So if Leia’s biological and adoptive fathers are present, why not her, too? In fact, since Rogue One is set before the events of A New Hope, where Princess Leia is already in possession of the Death Star plans, isn’t it obvious to whom Jyn Erso and her crew will deliver the plans that they will set out to steal in Rogue One?

If you’re excited to see Princess Leia and Darth Vader on Rogue One again, Edwards also reveals that there is another Easter Egg worth waiting for inside Star Wars: Rogue One.Time reports that in a recent interview with Edwards, there’s a very slight nod to two of his previous projects hidden in a scene inside the cave home of Rebel fighter Saw Gerrera. Apparently, it’s not him who placed the Easter Eggs but the production team. They might have thought it was a neat little addition that might put a smile on their director’s face.

“There’s some Easter eggs. In Saw’s cave, there are some cave paintings. One of them is of the creatures that were in my first film, called Monsters, and then there’s a Godzilla. I didn’t ask for it, I just came in one day and saw it.”

Well we can’t wait for Star: Wars Rogue one to hit theaters this December 16 so until then, we’ll be looking forward to our reunion with Darth Vader and we’re only hoping and praying for a glimpse of our beloved Princess Leia.
