Mariah Carey: Critics Say She Is No Kim Kardashian

Mariah Carey may be a critically-acclaimed singer, but she isn’t entering the reality television world with the same success as Kim Kardashian. Mariah’s World, which premieres on E! Sunday evening, has received mostly negative reviews. Meredith Blake of the Los Angeles Times thinks Mariah’s new show offers a lot of glitter, but very little depth.

“Carey may not be acting in Mariah’s World, but she’s still putting on a show, and not a terribly interesting one at that,” Blake claims, adding that the series is unlikely to complicate or deepen Carey’s image in any meaningful way or truly expose her vulnerabilities.

New York Magazine says that Mariah’s World turns out exactly how you would imagine. And that isn’t always a good thing.

“With so much TV to watch right now, surely you can do better than this. The world is big, my friends, and there’s a lot more to explore in it than Mariah Carey doing her best attempt at a Keeping Up With the Kardashians knock-off.”

The review adds that they eye-roller moment is when Carey claims she never wanted to do this documentary or be followed around by the cameras. The commenters after the article are definitely not tuning in.

“Thank you for the review & warning. Looks gross,” says Eastcoastgypsy.

“Me and my love of Mariah go back like babies and pacifiers…but no way I’m watching this s***t,” claims MikeyG.

CNN claims that Mariah’s World lives down to expectations, which isn’t really a bad thing.

“To say that ‘Mariah’s World’ is a predictable train wreck serves more as promotion than criticism. Yet even by the standards of reality docu-series, this E! showcase for pop diva Mariah Carey is pretty hilarious, especially with everything that’s transpired since the point where the show’s storytelling begins,” says critic Brian Lowry.

Mariah Carey has been in the news a lot lately, and much of it has to do with her new relationship with a much younger backup dancer. A couple days back, People reported on Mariah having a good time with backup dancer Bryan Tanaka.

“Just months after calling it quits with Australian businessman (and now-ex-fiancé) James Packer, the singer seems to have come to the realization that she and dancer Bryan Tanaka belong together — as more than friends!”

The article added that Ms. Carey spent a sun-filled Thanksgiving weekend in Hawaii with the singer, and the pair were spotted kissing on the beach. Ex-husband Nick Cannon was there as well to help Mariah and her kids enjoy a huge Thanksgiving feast. Some of the commenters after the article probably aren’t big fans of the singer.

“This woman needs to take some time to find herself. She’s jumping from man to man and is starting to look real desperate,” says Priscilla Walker-Webb.

“She’s gonna end up like Madonna one day. Toyboy after toyboy, more plastic surgery and more diva shenanigans!!! LOL,” claims Sandra Taddei.

No matter how many people bash Mariah, it’s definitely her time of the year — Christmas. “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is still a huge hit after 22 years. In fact, it is currently No. 14 on iTunes. Mariah Carey recently performed at VH1 Divas: Unsilent Night. According to Entertainment Weekly and Variety, Mariah brought down the house. It looks like Mariah doing what she does best (singing) is certainly bringing her more accolades than trying to jump on the Kim Kardashian reality show bandwagon.
