Jamie Dornan As Green Lantern? ‘Justice League’ Movie Might Get Hotter, Or Not
The upcoming Justice League movie might get a little bit hotter, as recent casting rumors have emerged stating that 50 Shades of Grey actor Jamie Dornan would be joining the cast as the Green Lantern Hal Jordan in the upcoming superhero ensemble film. While the idea of Dornan being cast as arguably the most recognizable Green Lantern in the DC extended universe is interesting, and while fans of both the superhero and the actor have reacted surprisingly well to the rumors, it might be a little too early to start celebrating.
The latest rumors came from Bravo! Film News, which posted a tweet stating that the 50 Shades actor has begun talks with Warner Bros. pictures for him to make an appearance in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Justice League film. While very brief, the announcement has managed to get the attention of numerous fans, mainly because of Dornan’s undeniable appeal and the premise of the superhero, who is one of the most notable members in the Justice League, finally getting the chance to make a film appearance alongside Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and his other fellow JL colleagues.

As much as these rumors are definitely interesting, the chances of Dornan playing Hal Jordan in the Justice League film remain slim at this point. This is because the initial tweet about the alleged casting could not be verified with any official sources. Of course, it is completely possible that the folks at Bravo! simply got insider information, but as it is, it is best to take these speculations with a massive grain of salt.
Fans of both Dornan and the superhero have also expressed their reservations about the rumor’s validity, with many noting that the same Twitter account has posted another casting rumor, stating that Jon Bernthal has begun testing for the upcoming 2018 The Batman movie as Harvey Dent/Two-Face. Just like the Jamie Dornan rumor, however, the tweet caused numerous fans to point out notable flaws with the speculations.

Bernthal currently has an active contract with Marvel, with the actor set to portray one of the franchise’s most iconic antiheroes, the vigilante Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher, in the character’s own series, which is scheduled for release next year. Thus, with the actor already signed with Marvel, and with Bernthal most likely signing a non-compete clause when he accepted the role of The Punisher, the chances of the actor taking on a project from the DCEU would be highly unlikely.
However, Bernthal did have recent connections with DC films, as the actor recently lent his voice to Trigon, a powerful inter-dimensional demon in the 2016 Justice League vs. Teen Titans movie. Interestingly, Justice League vs. Teen Titans was released around the same time as Daredevil Season 2, the Netflix series where Bernthal made his debut in the Marvel franchise.
With this, it appears that the casting rumors on the recent tweet are open for skepticism. Interestingly, however, the premise of Jamie Dornan playing Green Lantern has been welcomed pretty well by fans, with many stating that the actor does have the physique and look of Hal Jordan. Many even joked that the character would be a massive hit with female viewers, considering the actor’s dashing looks and undeniable appeal. After all, the idea of Dornan in the Green Lantern Corps’ skintight costume is indeed very interesting.

Just like Bernthal, however, Dornan is also involved in an ongoing film series. The actor currently headlines the 50 Shades franchise alongside actress Dakota Johnson. However, his commitment to 50 Shades might actually allow him to make brief appearances in the upcoming Justice League movie, especially since the dedicated movie for the superhero, Green Lantern Corps, is set for a 2019 or 2020 release date.
For now, these casting rumors will remain rumors, at least until official announcements are made. As much as these speculations might ultimately prove false, however, there is no denying the fact that they provide some exciting possibilities for the DCEU. The Justice League already has the ridiculously attractive Henry Cavill playing Superman. With the equally attractive Jamie Dornan as Green Lantern, the Justice League movie might very well end up as a feast for the eyes, in more ways than one.
