‘Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life’ Ending Leaves Fans Clamoring For More, Those With The Show Talk About The Possibility Of Doing Additional Chapters

Now that many people have binge-watched Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, fans are wondering if the show could return for more episodes. This revival was always slated to be a one-time return of the series so that the original showrunners could wrap things up in a way that fit their vision, but the way things ended for Rory and Lorelei, many think that an ongoing return is a necessity. Could there be more of the show on the way?

For years, Gilmore Girls fans had wondered what the last four words of the series were supposed to be, and now they finally know. As those who have followed the show know, Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Dan Palladino started the series and always had a plan for how it would end. However, contract disputes led to their departure after Season 6, and they were not in the picture for the last season.

With the revival on Netflix, Amy was finally able to use the last four words she had always intended to use, and it brought a shocker in a brief exchange between Rory and Lorelei. The A Year in the Life revival was intended to give fans closure, and it certainly did bring Rory and Lorelei around full circle. However, it also left viewers hanging in some key ways and people have been buzzing online about wanting more. Could everybody come back to do more episodes?

Sherman-Palladino told the Hollywood Reporter that they had a “very specific journey” planned for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life and they feel as if they accomplished what they wanted. At the same time, Amy seems to clearly indicate that the door is open. She says that the idea of doing more has to go out into the universe and she adds that whatever happens, happens.

Amy and Dan do have a new Amazon pilot in development, so it seems to be rather up in the air whether they would even be able to do more Gilmore Girls for Netflix if an order came together. Fans know what this show is like without Sherman-Palladino and Palladino, so keeping them in the mix is surely critical. Of course, the big question is whether the key stars would be available and willing to come back for more, as there is no show without Rory, Lorelei, and some of the other central figures. Cast members had a blast with this revival, and almost everybody from the original show was incorporated to some degree. If the show were to continue, however, not everybody would need to be involved, and that could make another season a bit more feasible to orchestrate.

So far, Alexis Bledel, Lauren Graham, and Kelly Bishop, who play Rory, Lorelei, and Emily, remain unattached to new projects. Matt Czuchry, who plays Logan, also seems to be available, but Scott Peterson, who plays Luke, does have a few things on his plate. Despite that, he had previously indicated that he’d be open to doing more. Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Jess, is a part of the ensemble cast of NBC’s This Is Us right now. However, many could see how it would be possible for him to do both shows should he be interested, and people can’t help but think that any additional chapters of Gilmore Girls have to include more Jess.

E! News caught up to both Bledel and Graham at the Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life premiere and asked them their thoughts on doing more episodes. Alexis noted that there are no plans at the moment for more, detailing that the cast was grateful to have had the chance to do these four new chapters. Of course, many suspect that Netflix was waiting to see how this four-part revival did before broaching the idea of doing more. Based on the chatter online, it seems that fans would embrace the opportunity to see more from these characters.

Alexis notes that it wouldn’t feel right to do more episodes just to do more episodes and she says that there would need to be a “really great reason” to continue on with the series. For her part, Graham teased that given the last four words, the answer about continuing should seem rather obvious. Bishop pondered whether Emily would be satisfied where she ended up in the long-term, which would seem to indicate that she’s open to a return as well. Also, Czuchry noted that it’s a great ending if it all stops now, but he added that it’ll be another great ride if there is more.

Should Rory, Lorelei, Emily, Logan, Luke, and the others reconvene for more now that the revival delivered its shocking ending that has generated so much buzz? What did you think of those final four words, and would you tune into more Gilmore Girls if Netflix and those with the series come together for additional chapters beyond A Year in the Life?
